Assistant Vice President & Senior Pricing Actuary

31 May 2016

Validus actively encourage everyone to ignore rank in discussing ideas, opportunities and problems. Open communication is key to this, and we engage in frequent dialogue with our employees globally

How did I get here?
I joined Validus Re Singapore Branch in February 2014, having previous experiences in direct insurance and reinsurance broking after graduation in 2007. Validus Re has given me lots of opportunities to challenge myself professionally and technically, which really engages me.

What is a typical day like?
As a senior pricing actuary, I work closely with the underwriters to price and assess our business. A typical day for me differs greatly, depending on the time of the year. During renewal period, I would be busy with the pricing of all deals for the branch. Outside of renewal period, I work with the underwriters to analyze our portfolio, identify new business opportunities as well as meeting with clients and brokers. I also work closely with colleagues from our Bermuda and Waterloo offices on various actuarial, risk management and research projects such as building and enhancing proprietary models for our business and studies on natural catastrophe perils.
